Just a few thoughts....

Our Daughter’s Amazing Birth Mother

I have been thinking a lot about what it means to be a birth mother and I would like to share how truly amazing our daughter Sophia's Birth mother, Sammy, truly is. We don’t have a tragic adoption story, instead we've been given the opportunity to add to our family in a way that has allowed us to grow spiritually and give us the larger family that we have desired.

Generally people don’t understand how open adoption works.  It is wonderful to be able to answer people’s questions with one simple answer, "we all love Sophia so much that we want the best for her."  We enjoy talking to others who have questions about adoption and hope that the things we have learned can, someday; help others understand how this process works and how it has helped us grow.

Sophia’s birth mother, Sammy, loves Sophia very much.   It is that love that gave her the strength to place her for adoption. She truly loves Sophia with all her heart.  It was a hard decision for her, but she wanted what was best for Sophia and she knew she had to put her own feelings aside. She knew she had to think of her baby first.  She wanted her baby to have a mama and papa.  Sammy is a truly strong person.  We thank her and God every day for the decision that she made to allow Sophia to be with us.

When we went to pick up our sweet angel we had to stay a week before we could take her across the state lines. We were able to spend that time with Sammy and her family and it was the best experience. I would like you to know that I truly love our birth mom and her family so much.  Not just for allowing this perfect angel to be in our family, but for who they are and the love we all share. It is something that is so extra special words cannot express. When the time finally came and we were allowed to leave Utah and head back home we stopped by the Salon where Nana works to say good bye to Sammy, her Mom and her Dad. It was so bittersweet, almost as touching as placement in the hospital. We all hugged and then we went out to the car. I looked back into the salon and I could see Sammy hugging her mom so tight, the tears were flowing down everyone’s cheeks, including ours. It was so evident to me in that moment that Sammy Loves Sophia and that through this difficult decision for her, the love she has for this sweet child is the reason she could place her in our family.

We are so blessed that we have grown our family in this way, not only did we gain an angel baby we gained an angel family. They are wonderful.  What more could you ask for than love for your child and how could you deny them that, we knew we couldn't.  Love is the answer to the questions. I could not deny my child the opportunity to feel the love of all who love her.  She not only deserves a family she deserves the love that a family creates. A whole family and they are truly our family, we love them dearly, they add so much to our lives, they are so special and we wouldn't change a thing in our adoption.
